The City Ave District Announces Completion of the Presidential Boulevard Project

July 30, 2018 (Bala Cynwyd, PA) Today, The City Avenue Special Services District (City Ave District) announced completion of a re-design of Presidential Boulevard.  The project, in partnership with Lower Merion Township, includes a mid-block pedestrian crosswalk, allowing pedestrians on the east side of Presidential Blvd. to access the west side and City Ave.; the addition of shoulders with bike lanes and a center turning lane; and milling, paving and striping.  The results have been transformative for Presidential Blvd., making it safer for motorists and pedestrians alike. The Presidential Blvd. Project is part of a long term Streetscape and Safety Improvement Program of The City Ave District.

“The goal of all the improvement projects is to create multi-modal access and safety for pedestrians, bicyclists and people of all abilities, “commented Terrence Foley, CEO & President of The City Ave District.  “These initiatives are helping to create a welcoming environment in The District.”

“Our goals for this project included the improvement of both traffic and pedestrian safety on Presidential Boulevard, with the three-lane configuration and pedestrian crosswalk,” said Bob Duncan, Assistant Township Manager. “We are happy to see this project completed, and are confident our partnership here with the City Avenue District will result in improved conditions on this street.”

More good news – The City Ave District was recently awarded a $986,715 grant from PennDot to help improve lighting on City Ave.  New lighting will enhance motorist visibility of pedestrians on streets and sidewalks, and overall pedestrian safety.
