Yong Kim, a stalwart on the region’s sushi scene since the 2000 opening of Bluefin in a strip center in Plymouth Meeting, is planning a second Japanese restaurant  – this time with a bar.

Kim says that later this summer or in early fall, he’ll open at 401 E. City Ave., the former Chops steakhouse, which closed nearly three years ago. He has not settled on the name.

Bluefin was one of the early entries in the suburban sushi scene; see this 2007 Craig LaBan review.

In 2012, Kim left his Germantown Pike location and headed five minutes north to a larger space in Northtowne Plaza in East Norriton. The original location, which Kim sold, briefly was known as Bluefin2 but later changed its name to Woojung.

Kim says the Bala location will have an even greater focus on sushi but will have a smaller menu.

There’s more sushi news in the City Avenue area; stay tuned.
